We don't deserve it but we still get it
Christ did not deserve punishment because He did not sin
We deserve the death penalty but Jesus got it for us
We now receive the undeserved favour
2. ACKNOWLEDGE/AGREE/CONFESS to God that we have actually messed up our lives by rejecting Jesus thus failing to live according to His Instructions.

G3340 repent
Original: μετανοέω
Transliteration: METANOEŌ
Phonetic: met-an-o-eh'-o
Thayer Definition:
- to change one's mind, i.e. to repent
- to CHANGE ONE'S MIND for BETTER, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins
Strong's Definition: From G3326 and G3539; to THINK DIFFERENTLY or afterwards, that is, RECONSIDER (morally to feel compunction): - repent.
Etymologically speaking, μετανοέω is a compound of νοέω [noeō], which means “to understand, to ponder, to think about,” and μετα [meta], which means “with”: μετανοέω means “to UNDERSTAND WITH, to USE the MIND with.”
When we repent, we are using our MIND to REALIZE that we have done wrong, to hate/regret our sin, and to CHANGE our MIND for the BETTER.
The Greek word μετα-νοέω METANOEŌ is a lot like our English word CON-SCIENCE : both terms imply “with knowledge.”
CONSCIENCE -
a person's moral sense of right and wrong, viewed as acting as
a guide to one's behaviour.
"he had a guilty conscience about his desires"
synonyms: sense of right and wrong, sense of right, moral sense, still small voice, inner voice, voice within, morals, standards, values, principles, ethics, creed, beliefs, compunction, scruples, qualms
REPENT - RENEW/RENOVATE our MINDS and CHANGE THE WAY we THINK which allow us to LIVE ACCORDING to GOD’S WILL.
WHAT BRINGS REPENTANCE ?
Jesus died for me. We don't deserve it.God is so good, He did not count my sin against me. He took my punishment on my behalf when i don't deserve it. This is the goodness of God. My sin is so big, i did not receive the punishment, because Jesus took the punishment on my behalf.
ROMANS 2:4 NKJV
Or do you despise the riches of His goodness, forbearance,
and longsuffering, not knowing that the GOODNESS of GOD leads you to repentance?
WHAT IS THE RESULT OF REPENTANCE?
ACTS 3:19 NKJV
Repent therefore and be CONVERTED, that your sins may be blotted out, so that TIMES of REFRESHING may COME from the PRESENCE of the LORD,

to the worship of the true God

Strong's Definition: From G1909 and G4762; to REVERT:- come (go) again, convert, (re-) turn (about, again).
The word forgiveness (aphesis) means LOOSING SOMEONE FROM WHAT BINDS him.
It stems from a verb meaning to SEND AWAY.
FORGIVENESS grants FREEDOM to those who are in BONDAGE.
ACTS 2:38 AMP
And Peter said to them, “Repent [change your old way of thinking, turn from your sinful ways, accept and follow Jesus as the Messiah] and be baptized, each of you, in the name of Jesus Christ because of the FORGIVENESS of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
HEBREWS 9:22 AMP
In fact under the Law almost everything is cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness [neither release from sin and its guilt, nor cancellation of the merited punishment].
A good behavior can only come about from a good nature
God has lifted the sentence of condemnation upon Christians for their sins through the death of Christ on their behalf and no longer counts them as guilty.
Forgiveness is necessary both because God is just and because all humans are guilty with sin.
When we UNDERSTAND this, we RECEIVE RELEASE (APHĒSIS ) from the captivating power of sin in our lives.
FORGIVEN AND FREE
ROMANS 6:22 TPT
But now, as God’s loving servants, you live in JOYOUS FREEDOM from the power of sin.
So consider the BENEFITS you now ENJOY—you are brought deeper into the experience of true holiness that ends with eternal life!
