UNDERSTANDING JEHOVAH SELICHAH יהוה סליחה - [Sermon Note]

Pastor Stephanie

JEHOVAH SELICHAH means THE GOD OF FORGIVENESS

NEHEMIAH 9:7-8 EASY

You are the Lord God who chose Abram.

You brought him out of Ur, in Babylonia.

You changed his name to be Abraham.

You knew that Abraham trusted you, so you made a covenant with him.

You promised to give the land of Canaan to his descendants.

That was the country where the Canaanites, Hittites, Amorites, Perizzites, Jebusites and Girgashites lived.

You have done what you promised to do, because you are righteous.

They experienced so much at that time

Sometimes you help people, they also forget

They turned against you

They forgot how Egyptian treated them

God did not turn away from His people

The God of forgiveness

One word cannot describe it

It is so rich in meaning

They still continued to believe in God

God promised to bless Abraham and his covenant

NEHEMIAH 9:9-10 EASY

You saw that our ancestors had trouble and pain in Egypt.

You heard them cry to you for help at the Red Sea.

You did great miracles to show your power against Pharaoh,

his officers and all his people.

You knew that they were being cruel to your people.

You showed everyone that you are a great God.

And people still know that it is true.

NEHEMIAH 9:11-12 EASY

You divided the sea into two parts so that your people could cross it on a dry path.

When Pharaoh's soldiers chased after them, you threw them into the sea.

They drowned in the water, like a heavy stone.

During the day, you led your people with a pillar of cloud.

At night, you led them with a pillar of fire to give them light. You showed them the way that they should travel.

NEHEMIAH 9:13-14 EASY

At Sinai mountain, you came down from heaven and you spoke to your people.

You gave them your laws, rules and commands, which are good,

fair and true.

You told them about the Sabbath and how to make it a special day.

You gave all your laws to Moses so that he would teach them to your people.

NEHEMIAH 9:15-16 EASY

You gave your people bread from heaven when they were hungry.

You gave them water from a rock to drink when they were thirsty.

You commanded them to go to the land that you had promised

to give them.

You told them to take it for themselves.

But our ancestors turned away from you.

They would not agree to obey your commands.

NEHEMIAH 9:17-18 EASY

They refused to obey you.

They forgot about all the miracles that you had done to help them.

Instead, they turned against you.

They chose a leader to take them back to Egypt, where they had been slaves.

But YOU ARE A GOD WHO FORGIVES people.

You are kind to people.

You are slow to get angry and your love for your people always continues.

So you did not leave your people alone.

Our ancestors made an image of a young cow to be their god.

They said to each other, “This is our god who brought us out of Egypt.”

They insulted you in that way, but you still did not turn away from your people.

NEHEMIAH 9:17 NLT

“You are a GOD of FORGIVENESS, gracious and merciful, slow to become angry, and rich in unfailing love.”

God was true to Himself and covenant

Blessings can come to us even when we are disobedient today

The new covenant in His blood, shed for the forgiveness of sin

H5547 forgiveness

Original: סליחה

Transliteration: selı̂ychâh

Phonetic: sel-ee-khaw'

Strong's Definition: From H5545; pardon:- forgiveness, pardon.

In Hebrew the name God of forgiveness is actually a plural,

God of forgivenesses.

The Hebrew word selikhot is used only of God because He is willing to forgive, unlike humans, who are often reluctant.

The words "forgive" and "forgiveness" in the Old Testament of the English Bible1 are the translation of three Hebrew words, namely kaphar, naga and salach.

KAPHAR

The Hebrew word kaphar and its derivatives appear in 154 passages in the Hebrew Bible.’

The original meaning of this word is "to cover," "to cover over," or "to overspread."

NAGA'

Naga' and its derivatives appear in the Hebrew Bible about six hundred and fifty times.’

The meaning of this verb is first "the lifting up; secondly, the carrying; and thirdly, the taking away of a burden." "

SALACH

Salach and its derivatives appear approximately fifty times.

This root is translated thirty-three times "forgive," twice "forgiveness," once "spare," and fourteen times "pardon."

Gesenius says about this word: "The primary idea seems to be that of lightness, lifting up."'

EXODUS 34:9 KJV

And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord,

I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and PARDON

our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.

1 KINGS 8:30 KJV

And hearken thou to the supplication of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, when they shall pray toward this place: and hear thou in heaven thy dwelling place: and when thou hearest, FORGIVE.

These are the prophets of God, who pray to God on behalf of the people. Asking God to forgive them

H5545

Original: סלח

Transliteration: sâlach

Phonetic: saw-lakh'

Strong's Definition: to forgive:- forgive, pardon, spare.

In each place salach is used it expresses the DIVINE pardon extended to the sinner.

No other idea has been assigned to it.

In no case has the word been used of human forgiveness between men.

That the divine pardon extended to the sinner is different from human forgiveness is suggested by the usage of the Hebrew word salach,

for in no case has this word been used of human forgiveness between men, but only to express the divine favor and pardon toward a sinner.

The divine forgiveness as a gift is portrayed in the following way:

Forgiveness, reconciliation with God, comes to us, not as a reward for our works, it is not bestowed because of the merit of sinful men,

but it is a gift unto us, having in the spotless righteousness of Christ its foundation for bestowal."

MATTHEW 9:1-2 NKJV

So He got into a boat, crossed over, and came to His own city.

Then behold, they brought to Him a paralytic lying on a bed.

When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son,

be of good cheer; your sins are forgiven you.”

MATTHEW 9:3-4 NKJV

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

MATTHEW 9:3-4 NKJV

And at once some of the scribes said within themselves, “This Man blasphemes!”

But Jesus, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think evil in your hearts?

Jesus knows our thoughts and thank God that He does not judge us anymore

MATTHEW 9:5-6 NKJV

For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins are forgiven you,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’?

But that you may know that the Son of Man has power on earth to forgive sins”—

then He said to the paralytic, “Arise, take up your bed, and go to your house.”

MATTHEW 9:7-8 AMP

And he got up and went home [healed and forgiven].

When the crowds saw this, they were awestruck,

and glorified God and praised Him, who had given

such authority and power to men.

MATTHEW 26:28 TPT

For this is the BLOOD that seals the new covenant.

It will be poured out for many for the COMPLETE FORGIVENESS of SINS.

Symbolise the new covenant shed on the cross

A judged God has to punish sins, unless someone is punished on your behalf, than you can be forgiven and go free

The gift of God is Jesus Christ

God is a judge

God forgives you and release you from the punishment because someone else is punished on your behalf

ACTS 8:18-19 TPT

When Simon saw how the Holy Spirit was released through the laying on of the apostles’ hands, he approached them and offered them money, saying, “I want this power too.

I’m willing to pay you for the anointing that you have, so that I also can lay my hands on everyone to receive the Holy Spirit.”

ACTS 8:20-21 TPT

Peter rebuked him and said, “Your money will go with you to destruction!

How could you even think that you could purchase God’s supernatural gift with money? You will never have this gift or take part in this ministry, for your heart is not right with God.

ACTS 8:22-23 TPT

Repent this moment for allowing such wickedness to fill you.

Plead with the Lord that perhaps he would forgive you the treachery of your heart.

For I discern that jealous envy has poisoned you and binds you as a CAPTIVE to SIN.”

You have been washed clean and you still sin, you are a captive to it

Grace is not for us to keep on sining

Grace is to set us free

When we are saved from sin, we are free

Jesus takes us out already

Walk in that freedom and liberty

Don't walk back again

Jesus paid for them

Receive the forgiveness of sin

EPHESIANS 1:7 EASY

When Christ died as a sacrifice on the cross, he PAID the PRICE to make us FREE.

Because of Christ's death on our behalf, GOD HAS FORGIVEN our sins.

God is so very kind that he has done all this for us!

ROMANS 6:6-7 EASY

We know that God has caused our old nature to die with Christ on the cross.

This happened so that God could make us FREE FROM THE POWER of SIN in our lives.

We are no longer like slaves who have sin as their master.

Sin no longer has any authority over someone who has died.

ROMANS 6:7

"For one who has died has been set free from sin."

Sin no more has dominion over us

God is a good God.

We feel guilty and not good enough, that is condemnation of sin

ROMANS 6:18 TPT

And NOW you CELEBRATE YOUR FREEDOM from your former master—sin.

You’ve left its BONDAGE, and now God’s perfect righteousness holds power over you as his loving servants.

Sin is a burden, is like a slave, condemning you

Forgiveness is now no longer under the law

we forgive in the same way we have been graciously forgiven by Jesus Christ

COLOSSIANS 3:13 TPT

Tolerate the weaknesses of those in the family of faith, forgiving one another in the SAME WAY YOU HAVE BEEN GRACIOUSLY FORGIVEN by JESUS CHRIST.

If you find fault with someone, RELEASE this SAME GIFT of FORGIVENESS to them.

Release the forgiveness. Don't ask someone to forgive in a lawful way

The strength of sin is the law

There is punishment on one side, there is always a fear of punishment

You are now forgiven because of the cross. Freedom, choose!

Choose Jesus, forgiveness

JEHOVAH SELICHAH - GOD OF FORGIVENESS

- DIVINE FORGIVENESS

LUKE 7:36-37 EASY

One of the Pharisees asked Jesus to eat a meal with him.

So Jesus went to the Pharisee's house and sat down to eat.

In that town was a woman who had done many wrong things.

She heard that Jesus was eating a meal at the house of the Pharisee.

So she took a small stone jar with oil in it, and she went there.

The oil had a very nice smell.

LUKE 7:38-39 EASY

She went into the house and she stood behind Jesus.

She was crying and she made his feet wet with her tears.

Then she made his feet dry again with her hair and she kissed them.

She then poured the oil out of the jar onto his feet.

When the Pharisee saw this, he said to himself, ‘This man cannot be a prophet from God.

If he were, he would know all about this woman.

He would know that she is a very bad person.

He would not let her touch him.’

LUKE 7:40-41 EASY

Jesus said to him, ‘Simon, I want to tell you something.’

Simon replied, ‘Yes, Teacher, tell me.’

So Jesus told him a story about two men: ‘Someone had lent two men some money.

He had lent one of them 500 silver coins.

He had lent the other one 50 coins.

LUKE 7:42-43 EASY

Neither of the men had enough money to pay him back.

Then the man that had lent them the money FORGAVE them.

“You do not need to pay back my money,” he said to them both.’

Jesus then asked Simon, ‘Which of these two men will love that man most?’

Simon replied, ‘I think that it is the man that needed to pay back the most money.’

‘You are right,’ Jesus said.

LUKE 7:44-45 EASY

Then he turned towards the woman.

‘You see this woman,’ he said to Simon.

‘When I came into your house, you did not give me water for my feet.

But she has washed my feet with her tears and she has made them dry with her hair.

You did not say “Hello” to me with a kiss.

But this woman began to kiss my feet when she came in.

And she has not stopped.

LUKE 7:46-47 EASY

You did not put oil on my head.

But she has brought oil with a nice smell and put it on my feet.

So I tell you, this woman has done many bad things.

But I have forgiven her.

SHE LOVES ME a LOT, because I HAVE FORGIVEN HER for MANY BAD THINGS.

If I only forgive someone a little, that person only loves me a little.’

LUKE 7:48-49 EASY

Then JESUS SAID to the woman, ‘Woman, I FORGIVE YOU for all the bad things that you have done.’

The other people at the meal talked among themselves.

They said, ‘Who is this man?

Can he really forgive the bad things that people have done?’

Why do you love Jesus?

The one who loved much is the one who has been forgiven much

Go to them and give them the unconditional love. The one who loves the Lord is the one who was forgiven much

The one who loves much knows he has been forgiven much

Understand the forgiveness of sin

LUKE 7:50 EASY

JESUS SAID to the woman, ‘You have BELIEVED in ME, so GOD has SAVED YOU.

YOU MAY GO NOW, and BE HAPPY.’ (go in peace)

G1515 peace εἰρήνη eirēnē

-security, safety, prosperity, felicity, (because peace and harmony make and keep things safe and prosperous)

εἴρω eirō (to join); peace ; prosperity: - one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again.

The woman kissed His feet

She put Jesus, the word of God more important than other things in this world

No one can stop you from loving God
